Disability Financial Assistance
As of 07/01/2017, we are no longer able to accept new
applications for the Disability Financial Assistance due to a legislative
funding decision. The program is ending 12/31/2017.
If you are currently receiving the DFA, it is our
understanding that your DFA assistance may end at the end of July if you have ever received a denial at the
reconsideration level with SSA (which is the first level of the appeal process),
or at your next scheduled redetermination in 2017. You will receive notice of the denial in the mail and can request
a State Hearing if you disagree with that decision.
If you applied prior to 07/01/2017, and are still pending a
DFA decision with JFS, you may be able to continue receiving DFA for additional
months. Once the DFA is approved, if at any point you end your SSA claim or if
you appeal an initial SSA denial and that appeal is denied, the DFA will be
terminated at that time. Again, you will receive notice of the denial in the
mail and can request a State Hearing if you disagree with the denial.
Unfortunately we do not have any control over this legislative
decision, but if you have questions or concerns please contact your Legislator.
